As our beloved dogs get older, their diets change. They no longer need the same active calories as before, but instead they need a healthy, soft and nutrient-rich food that takes care of their joints, digestion and immune system.

In this blog post, I will share some easy, healthy and safe and homemade senior dog food recipes. These recipes are easy to make at home and takes very less time
1. Chicken and Vegetable Soup – Soft and Tasty

Ingredients:
- 1 cup boneless chicken (boiled and chopped)
- 1/2 cup carrots (soft boiled)
- 1/4 cup peas (soft boiled)
- 1/2 cup rice (cooked)
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- Water enough to make a soupy consistency
How to make this senior dog recipe:-
- First of all, wash the boneless chicken thoroughly and cut it into small pieces.
- Put 2 cups of water in a pan and boil the chicken in it. Cook on low flame so that it becomes completely tender.
- After the chicken is cooked, add 1/2 cup carrots and 1/4 cup peas in the same water. Cook on low flame till both the vegetables become soft.
- Now add 1/2 cup cooked rice to it.
- Add a little 1/2 teaspoon turmeric (to reduce swelling in the dog’s body).
- Mix it and cook for another 5 minutes until a thin soup-like mixture is ready.
- Turn off the flame and let it cool slightly at room temperature. Then serve it to your doggie.
📝 Tip: If your doggie is without teeth, then mash the whole mixture lightly and give it.
Cook everything in a pot on low flame till the chicken and vegetables are completely mixed and then put in a bowl and Serve lukewarm.
Why is it beneficial :- Chicken contains protein, carrots are good for the eyes and rice smoothens digestion.
2. Sweet Potato and Turkey Smoothie

Ingredients:
- 1 cup turkey (boiled and chopped)
- 1 medium sweet potato (boiled and mashed)
- 1/2 banana (for fiber)
- A little omega-3 supplement (for doggie joint health)
How to make :-
- First, cut the turkey into small pieces and boil it in water until it is fully cooked (about 10-15 minutes).
- Take a medium-sized sweet potato, peel it and boil it. After boiling, mash it well.
- Now take half a banana and mash it too.
- Take a blender, add turkey, mashed sweet potato and banana in it.
- If you have omega-3 oil capsules, cut one capsule and mix its oil too.
- Now blend it with some lukewarm water to form a smooth and thick smoothie.
- Serve only after it cools or comes to room temperature.
📝 Tip: Do not add any salt, sugar or spices to it.
Why it is beneficial – This smoothie is perfect for old dogs with weak teeth.
3. Beef and Brown Rice Bowl – Energy Booster

Ingredients:
- 1 cup beef (lean, boiled)
- 1/2 cup brown rice
- 1/4 cup green beans
- 1/4 cup pumpkin (canned, unsweetened)
How to make:
- Wash the beef thoroughly and remove the fat (use lean beef). Then cut it into small pieces.
- Take some water in a pan and cook the beef on medium heat until it is completely brown and cooked.
- Now boil the brown rice in a pressure cooker or pot till it becomes soft.
- Wash and cut the green beans into small pieces and boil in some water till it becomes soft.
- Now in a bowl mix the cooked beef, brown rice, green beans and 1/4 cup pumpkin (if you are using canned pumpkin then use the one without sugar and additives) well.
- If you want, you can add some hot water to it so that the mixture becomes soft and easy to eat.
- Let it cool down completely before serving.
📝 Tip: This dish can be given every other day, so that the doggie also gets variety.
Why it is beneficial :- Pumpkin is rich in fiber and relieves constipation in senior dogs
Things to keep in mind in the homemade senior dog food recipes :-
✅ Low Fat + High Protein: Because the metabolism of senior dogs slows down
✅ Soft Texture: Soft food is better due to weak teeth and gums
✅ Joint Support Ingredients: Such as Glucosamine, Omega-3
✅ No Salt or Spices: Salt or pepper in food can be harmful for dogs
Conclusion
Older dogs need love the most with age, the needs of your beloved doggie change. Now they can’t run, they sleep more, but your company and love still matters to them. Good food keeps them strong from within and love keeps them alive.
